AMG Resources forms scrap joint venture with Alliance Steel
Scrap processor AMG Resources has formed a joint venture with Alliance Steel Service, a regional recycler in the US upper Midwest. The venture will be called AMG Alliance and will operate a scrap facility in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The joint venture is located on the Mississippi River next to an existing AMG processing yard and includes rail and barge-loading facilities. The venture will handle industrial and obsolete ferrous grades
"We're in the process of hiring people and purchasing equipment," AMG vice president Eric Goldstein told Platts, adding: "We're shooting to be up and running by April, when the [Mississippi] river is passable."
AMG processes more than 1 million long tons/year at 10 operating facilities in the US and two in the UK. The Pittsburgh-based company also operates 13 commercial offices in the US and one in the UK, in addition to two secondary steel marketing offices in the US.
Alliance operates a processing yard in Minneapolis, and a shredder at Deluth, Minnesota. The company also is in partnership at a third scrap processing location in St. Paul, Minnesota.
